For over four decades, dedicated volunteers, loving parents, committed and generous sponsors and rabid Hub City hoop fans have come together to put on an event to showcase the best basketball in both Greater Moncton and the Maritimes.

The boards for both the Men’s and Ladies’ Crandall University Hoop Classic are committed to carrying on the  traditions started decades ago by those on whose shoulders we stand. The organizers of the first edition on the men’s side in the early 80’s and the ladies’ side in the early 90’s brought to the Hub City something that is easy to take for granted today. Of course there is tremendous basketball talent in every community under the Greater Moncton umbrella, but they haven’t always had the same stage and visibility they have now. It’s largely because of the Hoop Classic and the players and coaches that the tournament turned on to the sport that the game of basketball enjoys the place in our community it does, and enjoys the growth that it does. Each and every member of both organizing committees has the same passion for the sport and the tournament.

This is the second year that the men’s and women’s committees have combined what was once two tournaments into one. The experience that we all shared during our 40th anniversary last year has only motivated us to make things bigger and better for our participating schools and fans as we move forward into the future.

The support of the community and our sponsors has always been extraordinary and continues to enable us to put on one of the best tournaments in all of Atlantic Canada. From our name sponsor, Crandall University, down through anyone who committed a single dollar or minute of their time, we couldn’t have done this without you and we know you’ll be back to support us for many years ahead.

And finally, no one can argue with our product on the floor. Each and every year we bring together the strongest teams in Greater Moncton to battle some of the best teams in Eastern Canada and this year is no different. The success of this year’s inaugural Men’s play-in tournament only added to the quality and competitiveness of our field. We hope to see you on Championship Saturday when we honour the teams and players that have left it all on the floor all week. But, also when we recognize coaches and kids that give it all off the floor as well, through our Brian Forsythe Coaching Award, Mowat Family Sportsmanship award and our Bursary Program.
